Small kitchen: some good examples + design tips
The theory and practice of interior design are different things. Therefore, in today’s article of our magazine you will not only be able to read a few useful tips on decorating a small kitchen, but also to see the most successful examples of their use!
Tip number 1: use uncluttered colors
Many people take this advice too literally and, among other things, try to give preference to the brightest, neutral hues. It cannot be said that this is a mistake – this technique really “works”, visually expanding the space. However, this may lead to the fact that the interior of the kitchen will be simply boring. Although, you can bet on a non-trivial, complex shade (even in the beige palette there are any).
You can also play on contrasts – it always looks impressive. On the example of this photo, it can also be noted how well the gloss and matte surfaces are combined, which also introduces a special “zest”.
And in the photo below, the designers diluted the achromatic palette with a woody accent and used an unobtrusive geometric pattern in the kitchen apron area. The main thing is that both of these nuances are not intrusive and harmoniously fit into the style of the interior.
Tip number 2: use the window sill
A small kitchen does not allow to leave precious centimeters of free space untapped. And if, say, installing a window washer can be problematic, then covering the windowsill with a tabletop and making a comfortable table out of it is a snap. Such a solution is much more practical than leaving this surface under flowers or decor.
Tip number 3: do not forget about the corners
Leaving the corners of a small kitchen empty is also an unaffordable luxury. At the same time, headsets with corner lockers are always a bit more expensive and not always relevant (besides, you can install a gas meter in them). So, you can order the usual kitchen, and take the corners with open shelves, due to which the kitchen design will look easier.
Tip number 4: use open shelves
Since we are talking about open shelves, they can be simply irreplaceable in the kitchen. For example, the designers of this narrow kitchen could leave the wall to the left empty, but instead used shelves for storing all kinds of bulk and other products – it’s convenient because!
Tip number 5: come to terms with the features of the layout
If you have a non-standard or narrow kitchen, correcting this as a drawback is not at all necessary. You can, on the contrary, use the features of the layout at hand. An example would be this stylish two-line kitchen.
Tip # 6: Go beyond
It is great if you have the opportunity to combine a kitchen with a pantry, a balcony or a living room – even if such alterations are not simple, but worth it. Thus, even the smallest apartment can turn into a stylish and comfortable studio.
If redevelopment fails, you can try to embed the idea of visual merging into the interior through glass partitions. The effect promises to be awesome!
